Recently I was trying to create a sysprepped image of my Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 instance using the new Windows System Image Manager. The problem I kept encountering was that everytime I tried creating the catalog, and selecting the image file, I’d receive the following error:

Windows System Image Manger execution failed.
Details: Parameter count mismatch.

I checked on a number of blogs and they suggested that I was selected the image file from the wrong architecture type media, meaning that I was running a 64 bit OS, but trying to use 32 bit media to create the image from.

Finally I discovered that there are actually two different version of the Windows System Image Manager and using the wrong version produces the same error. Make sure you’ve downloaded the correct version.
